Answerability is how easily an AI answer engine can find the answer to a question inside your page and lift it out cleanly. Search asks whether your page ranks. Answerability asks whether a passage on it can be retrieved and quoted on its own.
An AI assistant does not read your page top to bottom. It splits the page into passages, turns each into a vector, and pulls the passage that best matches the question. If your answer is spread across three paragraphs, buried below the fold, or written so it only makes sense after the heading above it, the engine cannot lift it. The page can rank well and still never be cited.
Topkay measures this the way an engine does. It chunks the page, embeds each chunk with a pinned model, and scores how well each passage answers the questions people actually ask. The result is a heatmap of which passages an engine would pull and which it would skip.
To raise answerability, write passages that stand on their own. Lead with the answer. Name the subject inside the passage rather than relying on an earlier heading. Keep each fact in one complete sentence an engine can quote without editing.
